LIVE IS BACK – and we couldn’t be happier.

To celebrate we’ve come out of the Crypt and into the beautiful and storied surroundings of the iconic BAFTA theatre in Piccadilly, fresh from its multi-million pound refit.

Come and join us in person or live online on 10 February 2022 as we grapple with maybe the biggest issue facing the industry...

WHO BENEFITS?

THERE’S BEEN A MURDER. Client outcomes are twitching their last on the floor. Everyone’s looking at everyone else, getting their story straight and no-one’s owning up.

If we’re to get to the bottom of the case, we’re going to have to take a leaf out of the wise detective’s book and ask: who benefits?

The last two decades have been an amazing ride.

The industry broke apart, advisers came to the fore, and scores of new, exciting propositions hit the market.

But as we bed into the 2020s, much of what we see is eerily familiar. The industry is re-integrating, distribution is consolidating and the regulator is firing warning shots about suitability and client outcomes.

Have we come as far as we thought we had, or are we heading back to the bad old days? What’s it all been about and who, in the final analysis, benefits?

You'll find the agenda below. We've chosen specifically not to pack it with lots of short sessions; this is serious stuff and we want to get to the bottom of it.

AGENDA

10.30am - Registration

11am - Morning session

“Whose industry is it anyway?”

New data, research and insights from Mark Polson, principal of the lang cat, and the lang cat team

“Do pensions work for real people?”

A fireside chat with Tom McPhail, public affairs director at the lang cat and Guy Opperman MP, Minister for Pensions.

12.45pm - Lunch

1.45pm - Afternoon session

Question Time

Chaired by the FT’s Claer Barrett and in a familiar format, panellists will discuss questions submitted in advance by the audience, and won’t know what’s coming up. Panellists include:

- Sheila Nicoll OBE, head of public policy, Schroders

- Anthony Rafferty, CEO, Origo

- Jo Little, director and financial planner, Emery Little

- Sarah Lyons, chief marketing officer, Parmenion

- James Daley, MD, Fairer Finance

Keynote

David Ferguson, ex-CEO of Nucleus, will reflect on 15 years spent trying to disrupt the industry, where we are as a sector, and what happens next. It may not all be comfortable listening…

Close: who benefits?

Mark will review the day and see how far we’ve got in answering our key question, before kicking everyone down to the bar.

4.30 – 5.30pm Drinks

COVID-19: if Government rules change we will of course comply. If we can’t hold the event as planned, we’ll look for another date and offer all ticket-holders the choice of a ticket to the new date or a full refund.
