Podcat #24: The latest happenings in Platform Land

written by Tom McPhail

Tuesday, 03 May 2022

In this podcat episode, the lang cat's own ace data and insights analyst Steve Nelson and antipodean refugee turned Citywire journalist James Fitzgerald chat to Tom about the latest happenings in the world of adviser platforms.

Aside from a slight diversion into pole vaulting (!), their discussion covers the work platform development teams have had on their plates of late, and how potentially platforms may now have the time and space to innovate.

They talk about how platforms are essentially people businesses, as well as the often dysfunctional relationship between the regulator, providers and the advice profession.

Steve suggests we need regulation that somehow addresses service standards among platforms and providers, while James provides an update on where Treasuy discussions are at on advice and guidance - providing the usual inevitable podcast mention of the advice/guidance boundary.
